Vacuum forming one sheet to one tray

Put simply, vacuum forming is "pulling a heated, softened plastic sheet into a mold with vacuum." The animation below runs the four steps — heat, sag, vacuum form, demold — and shows why it has cheap tooling and suits thin-shell parts like trays.

01 · HEAT

Sheet Heating

A plastic sheet enters the heat zone and infrared bakes it until soft. Temperature must be just right — too low won't draw, too high tears.

02 · SAG

Softening Sag

Once soft, the sheet naturally sags, ready to be brought down onto the mold. This step depends on even heating and enough stretch.

03 · FORM

Vacuum Forming

The mold closes and vacuum pulls the sheet tightly into every pocket, forming the tray in one shot. Pockets need draft angle for a clean release.

04 · DEMOLD

Cool & Demold

After cooling and trimming, the electronic tray is done. Low tooling cost and fast development make it ideal for prototyping and small-to-medium volume.

Vacuum Forming Common Materials

Vacuum forming can use various plastic sheets; each material has different properties and applicable scenarios. Selection depends on the product's application environment, appearance, and mechanical requirements — ESD anti-static formulas can be added per requirements.

STEPPED STACKING
Guann-Ming vacuum-formed trays use a stepped stacking design: empty trays nest tightly to save storage; loaded trays stack securely to prevent crushing.
PS

PS · Polystyrene

Rigid, easy to thermoform and economical, with optional clarity. For general trays, internal packaging and protective inserts; ESD anti-static formulas available.

PET

PET · Polyethylene Terephthalate

High clarity, tough, impact-resistant and recyclable — Guann-Ming's mainstream thermoforming material. For clear IC trays, precision component trays and display packaging that needs visibility.

ESD Anti-Static Options

For applications requiring anti-static properties — such as electronic work trays and IC carrier trays — Guann-Ming provides anti-static / conductive / insulative three ESD options. Customer provides 2D / 3D drawings or samples; we assess whether vacuum forming is suitable, provide an initial quote and timeline.

Produce Vacuum Mold

We produce wood, aluminum, or copper molds (per product requirements). Mold costs are lower than injection molding, with shorter development time.

03

Trial Sample Confirmation

Vacuum-formed trial samples are sent to customer for confirmation of dimensions, appearance, and fit. Mold adjustments made as necessary.

04

Mass Production

Enter mass production. Multi-batch shipping can be arranged per requirements. Trimming and inspection completed in-house.

05

QC Inspection / Packaging & Shipping

After quality inspection and packaging, goods are shipped on time. We support customer domestic and export shipping requirements.
